Kapuso first gained attention in 2010 when Sato posted photos of his adopted dog on his blog. A specific photo of Kapuso, showing her with a skeptical and curious expression, quickly went viral, giving rise to the “Doge” meme.

This single image, accompanied by phrases in broken English and Comic Sans font, has become a cornerstone of Internet culture.

In 2013, the founder meme gained popularity following the creation of Dogecoin, using Kapuso’s image as its official logo.

Although initially intended as a joke, Dogecoin has become a prominent cryptocurrency responsible for many charitable initiatives, including clean water projects and funding the Jamaican bobsleigh team.

In December 2022, Sato informed the community that Kapuso was in a “serious situation” health-wise, sparking massive support from the cryptocurrency community.

This includes Dogecoin co-founder Billy Marcus, also known as Shibitoshi Nakamoto, who asked his followers to send help, leading one X user to offer to cover “all the expenses necessary to ensure that she receives the best treatment.

Kapuso’s influence has even swayed political campaigns and is at the heart of the meme movement, which emerged after President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign announced the appointment of a “meme master.”

According to the official job description, the main task of the position will be to manage relationships with digital media companies, podcasts, and various meme pages spread across social media platforms.
