The Bachelorette Season 21 Episode 8 Recap: Is Anyone Ready to Propose?

Devin has forgotten what show he signed up for. Jonathan is so happy to be there, Marcus is always confused.

This is what you missed Tarab Single.

As always, the nights bring us some discoveries, exciting times, and for one guy, some nervous breakdowns. Let’s get started!

This season has gone by so fast. How did we even get to the end when I vividly remember Hakeem sticking all those balloons on that tree like it was yesterday?

Anyway, the night’s drama begins like all the previous episodes, with a look at the end of the two hours, with Devin going through it.

Now we know that the night wasn’t supposed to go the way he wanted it to and that he’d have to wait until later to find out why. I’m surprised and upset, so you win, ABC!

The Hawaii tourism ad was great, and then Molly showed up on a free vacation to talk to Jane about the importance of these dates and how she feels.

At this point, men are in unique categories, each different from the other, and she’s not saying anything new here.

Basically, it boils down to Devin being too good to be true, Jonathan still isn’t open enough, and she loves Marcus more than he loves her. Dilemmas, dilemmas, dilemmas.

Devin and Jen are up first, and it’s time for their 383,002nd helicopter flight of the season. Taking them around the world earlier than ever before, the only budget concessions were helicopter rides and packed lunches.

Everything about the daytime part of Jane and Devin’s date is cute because you can tell that they have a real connection, and he really likes her. But this is one of the first times you can tell that Jane likes this guy but doesn’t fully love him.

I think everyone can relate to Jane about not wanting to sabotage yourself and accepting the good as it is, but it’s much easier to give that advice to someone else.

It’s hard for me to hear Jane directly say that she doesn’t love Devin anymore, so I can’t even imagine how Devin feels when he says he loves her again and is met with roaches upon roaches.

If I tell someone I love them and they say they’re trying to get there, bro, my therapist is going to have a hard time.

The dinner part of the date is very similar to the Jenny part, and I feel sorry for Devin because he’s clearly ready for this whole thing to be over so he can spend time with his dog, run with his friends, and be with Jenny.

It’s a beautiful sentiment, but it also feels like Devin forgot he was on The Bachelorette and competing against someone else. And it’s a competition with an expiration date. You won’t win and you get the information overnight.

This is TV, bro, and they have more hours to produce.

Devin agrees to stay the night, and the two do, and the next day a joke about Pete Davidson comes up. And I’m sorry, since when does Devin get compared to Pete Davidson?

I don’t see it at all and feel like I’m not part of the joke.

Perhaps the most awkward moment of this entire date is when Devin tells Jane he loves her again as they leave each other, and all she says is okay.

Jane can only feel what she feels and be true to herself, but my God! If I were Devin, my therapist would hate me.

Devin seems so sad when it’s all over, and I’m just as sad as Devin when Jane leaves, and he has more time to think about being stuck in Hawaii, knowing his girl doesn’t love him.

Unfortunately, we now move on to Jane and Jonathan. And here’s the problem with these two; I don’t see it.

I’m sure Jane doesn’t see it either, but there must be three by now. Those are the rules!

The two have some food, which Jonathan clearly doesn’t like, and then it’s time for lunch by the waterfall. Jonathan says all the right things about wanting to be a part of her happiness, but what else does he want?

I don’t know, and apparently Jane doesn’t know either.

You can’t talk about relationship potential at this stage while expecting someone to propose to you.

The dinner date gives Jane and Jonathan time to talk about their childhoods, embracing cultures, and what life might be like with their virtual children. Jonathan sees a future, but does he want one with Jane?

I asked the magic ball number 8 and it said “very doubtful”.

Jonathan accepts the invitation to spend the night, and the next morning, they seem to have had a great time. There is talk of their potential again, and I ignore that because maybe these two would have had a chance if the proposal had been two months longer, but that’s not the case, and he doesn’t propose.

Before we get to Marcus, we hear an intense interlude between Devin and Marcus, where he discusses not feeling like number one with Jane, and he gets upset. It feels like it’s foreshadowing everything (bad job and production), because just as we get a prelude to Jane’s date with Marcus, Jane says the one thing Devin is understandably afraid of!

Oh, I was upset when Jane said she loved Marcus, if only because I, and all of America, know he’s not there yet. And he makes sure to say it through tears whenever he can.

He enters their date in a state of uncertainty, and she enters his in a state of love.

Devin walks somewhere with a camera crew, contemplating his current life situation against the backdrop of a Hawaiian sunset.

Jane and Marcus had a great date, taking a boat ride and then swimming with manta rays at night. They were so happy and fun, it was a sign that dinner wasn’t going to be anything like that.

Marcus is nervous about the final rose ceremony, and finally realizes that this whole thing is supposed to end with two people in love and ready to plan a wedding.

It’s almost as if you can see this realization hitting him when he sits down at that table.

He dropped that dreaded potential word again, and I wanted to move on really fast, but if I did, I wouldn’t be able to write this, and I know you’re glad I kept listening.

Jane seems shocked by Marcus’ admission that he doesn’t love her, and I won’t lie, I’m not sure why. At every turn, he seems to avoid going into the details of his feelings, and nothing has changed for them between their hometowns and now.

Marcus and Jonathan feel like they’re in the same place with Jane right now, but the only difference is that Jane loves Marcus more.

I wasn’t sure if these two would spend the night together, but they do, and the next day Marcus is talking about their magical night or something. But I’ll stick with him saying he wants to stay hopeful that he can fall in love with Jane.

Just writing this sent chills through my entire body.

We were supposed to get to the rose ceremony, but that’s not going to happen because we haven’t even seen Devin suffer before, so we have him talk to Jesse and express his feelings.

It feels like a classic moment we’ve seen over and over again on The Bachelor series.

Devin feels like he’s giving and giving, but he doesn’t feel the love in return. So how can he feel comfortable proposing when he feels like he’s the only one risking his heart?

This is the first time all season that I’ve been really excited to see what comes next!

Devin’s not leaving (I’d bet my Chevy Trax on it), but what will Jane say to make him stay?

Will she tell him she loves Marcus?

There are a lot of questions about this Devin situation, but we’ll get the answers tomorrow during the Men Tell All, so let’s thank God for his blessings!

Send me your thoughts in the comments!
