The Bachelorette Season 21 Episode 3 Recap: Keep the Main Thing the Same

They’re setting Sam M. up all the way with the Bachelorette edit they’re giving him!

Every time he fixes his mouth to talk about Devin and his hopes for the day when he doesn’t get a rose, I know he’s going to eat those words at some point this season.

That time is definitely coming, but let’s dive into another week in the outback while we wait!

It’s a new day in Melbourne, and Jane starts her next week by inviting Spencer over for a one-on-one date. I had no idea she liked him that much!

The two go on a great helicopter ride, but it’s hard to see the chemistry on those dates when they’re yelling at each other through a headset with another guy in earshot.

Back at the hotel, the never-ending display of hatred towards Devin continues, but instead of Aaron or Thomas N. leading the charge, they give the reins to Sam M., who spends the two hours talking about Devin and his bitten ankles more than the girl he’s currently dating.

Elsewhere, Jane and Spencer leave Heaven for a romantic dinner, where Spencer has to tell Jane something ominous, based on the way he leads her to reveal it.

Cheating sucks, Spencer! I’m with you on that, but he assured Jane that he wasn’t tired of his ex and that he was ready to commit.

Compared to her other solo dates, Jen doesn’t seem as excited as we’ve seen her, but Spencer still gets the rose, and that’s it.

In this group date, ten men arrive at an empty theater, where they quickly realize that they are going to strip! You can see the light dim in many of their eyes.

Thank God they gave us that warning to start the show because all those body rolls and dolphin dives needed a warning.

While some men are prone to being silly and having fun, Sam N. faces great difficulties. It doesn’t help that his attempt to dive with dolphins ends with an injured thumb. What a bruise to his ego.

I love dates that put guys outside of their comfort zones because it’s cool to see how your potential husband will react when you give him a few hours to strip off in front of strangers.

Damn the potential parent you might be; that’s the kind of thing that matters.

The best dancing goes to Dylan (my favorite), who starts first and sets the tone, and Jonathan, who seems most comfortable on this stage.

Sam M. does his little dance and makes sure to whisper something flirty in Jane’s ear, and the two Australian bachelorettes quickly notice the chemistry between the pair but also tell her to be careful of men you have that kind of sexual chemistry with.

Thank you, my Aussie sisters! Not only is Sam M. more obsessed with talking about Devin than he is with Jen, but I’m not 100% sure there’s more of a dynamic between them now than flirting and lust.

They may get there, but I’m not convinced. Either way, Sam M will always keep the main thing, so we’ll see.

Devin’s dancing is funny and a bit over the top, but that’s in keeping with his character. Anyone can hate Devin all they want, and they do all the time, but Jane sees someone being himself without apology, and she feels connected to that.

Sam N. finally goes, sucking the air out of the room to tell Jane he’s falling in love with her, never even taking off his robe.

If I hadn’t been reviewing this show, I would have had to turn off the TV because my indirect embarrassment would have gotten out of hand.

Everyone was shocked by Sam N.’s rather strange statement, if only because it wasn’t the right time and place for it. If he didn’t want to take his clothes off, then surely Jane would have respected that, but stopping the show for this reason, especially this early when they hadn’t spent much time alone together, seemed forced.

Jonathan wins the contest but gets nothing in return, which is too bad considering the embarrassment he and I had to endure.

At the cocktail party we see Jane kissing and exchanging kisses, which is good for her!

Perhaps her best conversation was with Devin, who opened up about being overweight as a child and struggling with his body image. Getting on stage was a huge thing for him, but he did it, and even enjoyed himself, which Jen appreciated.

I’m telling you, Jane loves this man, and all the men who hate him have never achieved anything.

Outside of the chats, Sam M and Devin are getting involved again, which is boring and overdone, and we’re only three episodes in.

They don’t like each other and have their own reasons, but no one cares! Sam Im keeps talking about taking things outside, and I wish he would.

Scream, scream, do what you have to do, and then let it go because I know that me and these guys are tired.

And if I have to hear Sam M. call Devin a bully again… I won’t do anything, but I’ll be upset!

The group date rose goes to Devin, which is no surprise because, again, she loves this guy.

I know that Sam M. and Thomas N. punched the air on the Marriott balcony when they returned to the hotel that night.

Now, it’s time for the other four men to have their date with Jane, but only after Aaron finds a phone and receives a call from his Air Force supervisor telling him he needs to decide whether to return to flight training.

Aaron decides to go on a date, hoping to make up his mind after spending more time with Jane, but for that to happen, he’ll need to win a race on the racetrack!

Dates like this are fun, and I can understand why there were only four of them because it must have taken them a long time to train everyone to do one lap.

Poor Hakim seems like a very kind man, but out of the four of them, he probably needed that time with her more than anyone else because I can’t remember them spending much time together up until this point.

Jeremy’s surprise kiss in the car with Jen is definitely the most interesting thing either of them have done on a date, and suddenly, Jeremy has jumped up in my rankings! It’s a very strange romantic moment.

Austin wins, and gets some extra time with her. Awesome?

All the guys spend some time with her at the cocktail party, but nothing really special. Jeremy gets the rose on the date, which leaves Aaron a bit stunned, and I’m not sure why.

The rose ceremony leads Aaron to make a decision no one knew he had to make, and not getting the rose seems to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

Leaving is the right thing to do, especially at this early stage of the process when so many bonds are forming. There is a sweet moment between Aaron and Jane as they discuss his choice before he decides to leave the series in grief.

What exactly is the point of telling Jane that there are people there for the wrong reasons without naming names?

If you want to be big and bad enough to claim it, you have to stick to your words and tell her what you know. Otherwise, keep quiet!

You can tell that Jane is upset, and rightfully so, by the abrupt way she says goodbye. Her speech to the men afterwards is her gentle version of “Get out of here now if you don’t really love me” that she can say.

We have more conversations with Sam M. (still little substance, I’m afraid) and Devin (seeing each other), and then we hand out the roses.

In the end, Hakim and Thomas A. are left without roses, and it is time for them to say goodbye.

We’ll then head to New Zealand, where it seems Devina and Jane have gotten closer, and Sam M. will surely have a lot to say about that.

Until then, let me know what you think of Jane’s choices in the comments and where you see things. And always remember to keep the main thing the same.

See you next week, Bachelor Nation!
