Echoes Season 1 Episode 8 Review

Critics Rating: 4 / 5.0

The Printout Posse are now together, but if this latest episode of Orphan Black: Echoes proves anything, it’s that coming together doesn’t mean the same thing as being safe.

The audience was dealt a severe blow in “The Joyce Paradox” with the loss of a much-loved character.

Despite this, almost everyone in Orphan Black: Echoes feels dispensable – everyone except Kira, Lucy, Jules, and Eleanor.

While this may not have been the writers’ intent, this is how the series began to feel.

And I don’t just mean the body count, as some of the characters that were there in the beginning have completely disappeared at this point.

With only one episode left before the finale, it’s time for Orphan Black: Echoes to start answering some questions.

Paul Darros blurs the lines between ally and enemy with the ability to lead a one-man army.

After eight episodes, Orphan Black: Echoes has yet to provide any answers about what Paul Darros is up to.

All we know is that he is a tech billionaire interested in selling “extended life” to the rich and powerful.

However, this only amounts to a small amount. Paul is already very wealthy, so whatever his plan is, it is not aimed at making more money.

“Joyce’s Paradox” was also the first time we saw a crack in Paul’s composure. Long gone were the days of Darius’s calm and collected self.

Whatever Jules, played by Amanda Fix, stole from him has Paul furious. The Apple Watch-like device is supposedly linked to external accounts.

At stake may be information for all the high-profile clients Darus works with.

I think what Paul Daros is looking for is power, not money.

At least he directed all his frustration and anger towards Tom. This man deserved the multiple reality checks he finally got.

However, it doesn’t seem like the right time for Darius to turn on his followers. We already know that Emily was an unwilling agent.

Now that he’s working with Kira, Tom might jump ship if he can get over losing his ear.

One of the main themes in Orphan Black: Echoes is sacrifice, with the audience feeling the loss.

Kira needs all the help she can get right now. The people she lives with don’t want to be there, and her family has fallen apart around her.

Ms. Manning really screwed things up, and the writers of Orphan Black: Echoes were smart to spread the details out over the course of six or seven episodes.

We always knew that Kira, played by Keeley Hawes, was at the center of the cloning process. However, I don’t think anyone expected it to be this personal.

I still highly support the doctor and scientist because she is doing everything she can to fix things.

Fans of the original Orphan Black series will likely be happy to see her childhood traumas and experiences put to useful use.

She will fight tooth and nail to make things right. Hopefully it won’t cost her her life.

As Lucy discovers, stopping Darus means sacrifice, and clearly the first thing that must be sacrificed is family.

Luck doesn’t seem to be on Lucy’s side as she struggles to make any semblance of a life.

If anyone needs a hug right now, it’s Lucy. Poor printable is losing pieces of her life every minute.

It had become clear for some time that Charlie and Jack were no longer her top priority.

To be fair, the character has been pulled in multiple directions since the first episode.

From the safe house to Jack’s farm, the escape, and the discovery of multiple copies of herself, Lucy doesn’t have a moment to catch her breath.

Along with Kira, Lucy, played by Krysten Ritter, did her best to find out what Paul Daros was up to.

She survives a hitman and gets stabbed by a scared Jules, all while avoiding Paul’s men left and right.

Women have never had a life where they can make their own choices and relax.

Lucy was so close to securing a life for herself, Jack and Charlie, but with Craig’s death, we’re pretty sure Lucy isn’t going anywhere.

She shouldn’t go with Jack and Charlie anyway because danger seems to follow her wherever she goes.

It seems like everyone around the Printout Posse ends up getting hurt in one way or another.

Orphan Black: Echoes is already showing signs of a crazy, chaotic climax.

Lucas certainly didn’t take the revelation of his mother’s resurrection well.

However, we have to admit it to Rona. I didn’t expect her to be so understanding of the situation.

Maybe she can help Eleanor’s son realize that he should use the extra time he has with his mother to make more memories.

There is no guarantee that Kira will be able to find a cure for Elle’s condition.

With Paul putting more pressure on Kira, it will be difficult for her to find the time.

Although this AMC series has had its ups and downs with audiences, the writers are trying to engage old fans with new ones.

As I said in my review of the previous episode, it’s time for Uncle Felix to return.

Although we only got him in a few scenes, he provided a great deal of wisdom to Dr. Manning.

Kira also said what we were all probably thinking during her conversation with Felix when she said, “Please don’t tell my mom!”

Oh my God, I can only imagine that very heated conversation.

Orphan Black: Echoes is gearing up for its chaotic climax, and I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the deaths.

More bodies will be falling to the ground before the end of season one. We just hope the losses are on Paul’s side.

Xander, played by Vinson Tran (Titans), feels like he’s disposable at this point, but he’s just a kid. Like Jules, he’s looking for a purpose.

We hope viewers don’t have to wait until the end to finally get the answers.

Regardless, you already know I’ll be on the edge of my seat watching every minute of the next few episodes of Orphan Black: Echoes season 1!

Do you have any theories about what Paul Daros is doing with his indestructible device?

How do you think Lucy will react to Craig’s death?
