8 Things We Wish Happened Before Blue Bloods Ends

Now that we’ve had time to digest the painful cancellation news, we’re focusing on the things we hope will happen before Blue Bloods ends.

Every member of the Reagan family deserves a powerful ending.

Nothing should be left hanging by the time the end credits appear, and the end of the series should feel like the end.

The Blue Bloods writers have always prided themselves on avoiding soap opera-like nonsense, so they’ll likely introduce new issues and political problems right up until the final episode.

However, the final family dinner will be filled with tears if it goes the way we hope and expect.

‘Blue Bloods’ Gives Us a Glimpse into the Next Chapter of Reagan’s Life

Even if a subsidiary is not created, the Reagan family must expand.

After spending fourteen years with the Reagan family, it would be a faint consolation to know that their lives will end in a good place, but it’s better than nothing.

It would help ease the shock if the ending was written as an end to this chapter of their family history rather than an end to everything forever.

If there is a Blue Bloods spinoff, the series finale could help set it up.

However, one thing we hope will happen before Blue Bloods ends is that we get a real sense of each member moving into a new phase of life, even if that phase isn’t something that viewers can share.

We’ll always be sad about the end of this series, but if it at least has a satisfying ending, that’ll help.

Frank steps down as commissioner

Making way for the next Reagan would be nice.

It makes sense that the series would end with Frank’s retirement.

His determination to be a man of integrity regardless of what the mayor or his dream team thinks, coupled with the fact that two of his sons are police officers, was at the heart of Blue Bloods.

Additionally, Frank’s retirement would close this chapter in his life and open a new one for the next police commissioner, especially if it’s someone else in the Reagan family.

There are several options for the perfect commissioner to replace Frank at the end of Blue Bloods.

Jimmy is the most logical person to have another Reagan as commissioner, he is very rational and does what he thinks is right.

However, the position of police commissioner should not be a dynasty, and Frank only got the job because the person after Henry was corrupt.

That’s why I’d like Abigail to be the new commissioner.

She was loyal to Frank, not afraid to stand up to him, and had worked as a policewoman before.

No one knows the job better than her after working with Frank all these years.

However, one thing we hope will happen before Blue Bloods ends is for Frank to pass the torch to a new commissioner.

This would be a nice way to end the series.

Jamie and Eddie start a family.

Reagan’s new baby symbolizes the continuation of the Reagan family after the series ends.

A surprise pregnancy might make for a pretty boring TV scene, but it could be part of the series finale.

The most painful thing about losing Blue Bloods is that we no longer have the chance to be part of this fictional family, but the next best thing is knowing that the family will continue.

Which is why one of the things we hope will happen before Blue Bloods ends is for Edie to announce that she’s pregnant.

This is the kind of story that wouldn’t work if the show continued because it wouldn’t be realistic for Edie to continue to be active in the field until close to her due date, and figuring out what to do with her while she’s unable to work would be difficult.

However, with the series ending, these logistical difficulties disappear.

Alternatively, Eddie’s pregnancy might be a good note to end the finale on.

It would be especially touching if she and Jamie decided to name the baby after Henry (but please, don’t let Henry die!)

Danny meets with Baez (or someone else)

He’s been moving towards a new love, so let’s enjoy it!

Danny has been a widower for six years, and there is no longer any need for him to be alone at the end of the series.

Many people never remarry – Frank and Henry were widows for decades – but Danny recently admitted that he was afraid to meet someone new because he feared losing them again.

There has been a lot of speculation that when Blue Bloods ends, Danny will be with Baez.

Whether or not that happens, he deserves to end the series in a happy new relationship, so one thing we hope will happen before Blue Bloods ends is for his romantic future to become clear.

Even if it’s with fortune teller Maggie Gibson, who is my least favorite choice.

Another plot centered around Henry.

Patriarch Reagan deserves a strong story before the series ends.

Henry spent a good chunk of season 14 being a voice at the dinner table and doing nothing else.

One thing we hope will happen before Blue Bloods ends is that it gets a strong, memorable story.

All we ask is that this song not be his swan song before his unnecessary death.

This would be a disappointing ending and no one wants that!

Henry often comes into conflict with Jamie, who tends to treat him like he’s weak because he’s old, so if his final storyline resolves that issue, it’ll be a perfect ending for him.

Extra points if he meets Donna (Erika Slezak) again.

She has a more free spirit than Henry and always puts a smile on his face.

Erin faces Jack Boyle again.

Forget the romance – let them argue in court.

Erin and Jack Boyle were one of the most indisputable couples, constantly joking about the idea of reconciliation years after their breakup but never quite coming to that conclusion.

Whether or not they eventually get together, one thing we hope will happen before Blue Bloods ends is for Erin and Jack to become courtroom rivals again.

Jack is always trying his best, and this affects Erin, making it difficult for her to focus on winning the case.

There hasn’t been enough Erin in court lately, and having to deal with her ex-husband in a big case would make the final courtroom scene even sweeter.

This would also reinforce the idea of Erin as a fighter for justice, which would be a perfect ending for her.

Shawn gets some advice about his future from his older brother.

If Jack Reagan returns, it should be to help Sean start a new chapter in his life.

One of the charming things about the early seasons of Blue Bloods is that Danny’s kids were played by real-life brothers Tony and Andrew Terracciano.

When Tony Terracciano decided to go to college, his Blue Bloods counterpart was dropped.

While it’s fun that Shawn grew up on the show and is still there, he needs another visit from his brother before the series ends.

This could lead to a Blue Bloods spinoff centered around Sean.

Most importantly, this series will allow the brothers to reunite, furthering the show’s legacy of putting family first.

Sean’s future is unclear.

He went to college, but it’s not clear what he plans to do with his life.

He could have followed in his family’s footsteps and become a policeman, lived out his childhood dream of becoming a firefighter, or done something else entirely.

The only thing we hope will happen before Blue Bloods ends is for Shaun to figure it out, preferably with the help of his brother.

How cool would it be if Andrew Terracciano’s real-life big brother gave his fictional alter ego advice on how to shape his future?

One last big family dinner with people who have moved on.

Family dinner is a given, but the last dinner should be special.

There’s no doubt that Blue Bloods will end with one last family dinner.

This is the most famous and popular part of the show.

The final dinner should be special, more like a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner (even if the episode isn’t holiday-themed) than a regular Sunday dinner.

One thing we hope will happen before Blue Bloods ends is for all the living Reagans — and the honorary Reagans, too — to come to the Reagan family’s last dinner.

Nicky and Jack are the absolute minimum. Danny can call Baez and Jackie, Erin can call Anthony, and Henry can call Donna.

The entire Dream Team may also be in attendance, so everyone can honor the Reagan family one last time.

This would be expensive and difficult to shoot, but it’s a beautiful dream that we hope will come true anyway.

The cancellation of Blue Bloods leaves a huge hole for people who love family drama, so it at least needs to go out with a heartfelt toast to our favorite fictional family that includes every character you love.
