Aethir, a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) provider, announced the launch of its decentralized cloud computing network on the Ethereum mainnet.

Enterprises, data centers, other cloud providers, and cryptocurrency mining operators can contribute unused GPU resources to Aethir’s GPU-as-a-Service network.

Co-founder Mark Rydon highlighted the importance of the mainnet launch, saying:

“By providing a scalable framework for redistributing unused computing resources, we can enable greater innovation in rapidly evolving areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and cloud gaming. On mainnet, high-quality organizations can contribute to the Aethir network and increase access to existing GPU supply.

Ethereal network functions and cryptography

Businesses and developers will be able to rent computing resources from Aethir’s network of providers to help train artificial intelligence (AI) models or deliver digital content at scale.

Through its native ATH token, Aethir uses Ethereum for its staking capacity, Arbitrum (ARB) for fast payments to account service providers, and community rewards for validator nodes to strengthen quality assurance.

ATH’s ATH also facilitates network management, storage operations, and security of the DePIN ecosystem.

Speaking to Cointelegraph, Rydon explained the encryption controls in place to protect the security of data transmission:

“We use full encryption technology to ensure that only users can transmit and view data while in use, and no third party can hack and open it. The encrypted channel will be closed at the end of its use to protect the absolute security of user data.

Testnet success and mainnet security

Aethir’s network testing phase has surpassed 500,000 users, along with a $146 million sales and support contract from NVIDIA, Super Micro, HPE and Foxconn.

On how Atheer ensures data security and privacy, Rydon told Cointelegraph:

“In terms of network security, such as network access control and combating DDoS, hardware firewalls protect data security. The customer is always the owner and user of the data, and the cloud platform guarantees its security and confidentiality. This data is secure and confidential not only for external visitors but also for internal visitors.

Web3 architecture de-dePIN-ing

The DePIN narrative continues to spread in the Web3 space, gaining momentum even though the technology has been available for several years.

Speaking about DePIN’s role at Web3, Raydon said:

“The DePIN architecture itself provides good availability and underlying fault tolerance capabilities. Distributed computing power avoids the problem of excessive centralization of service nodes, resulting in insufficient service capacity at a single point and low fault tolerance.

DePINs have the potential to disrupt Big Tech and liberate the Internet, allowing individuals to save their own labor or resources and receive rewards in the form of micropayments.
